2026 STRIKE BULLETIN #30

Effective 6:00 am today, July 12, 2026,

The Union has made the decision to escalate job action today by temporarily removing our members from performing their duties at Seymour Capilano Filtration Plant until further notice (except for the members who have been scheduled as essential service workers by the Union).

Members continue to be withdrawn from the following locations:

  • Lions Gate Wastewater Treatment Plant
  • Regional Parks (except for the members who have been scheduled as essential service workers by the Union)
  • Metro Vancouver Housing Corporation
  • Head Office at Metrotower III
  • Lulu Island Wastewater Treatment Plant
  • LWS Maintenance Services at Annacis Island Wastewater Treatment Plant
  • WS & LWS Maintenance Services at Lake City Operations Centre
  • South Fraser Construction Yard
  • Annacis Liquid Waste Services Civil Maintenance Yard
  • Water Services Engineering & Construction Job Classifications
    • Construction Worker I/II
    • Tradesperson II – Carpenter
    • Carpenter Apprentice
    • Equipment Operator II/III

This escalated job action is being initiated to motivate the Employer to come to today’s scheduled mediated bargaining session, with a true commitment to negotiate a fair and reasonable contract as the local municipalities across the region have negotiated with their workers.

Metro Vancouver must show a genuine intent in responding to the serious concerns raised by members for improvement of health and safety provisions, reducing contracting out of union members’ work and improving the retention and recruitment of skilled workers.

Please be advised that information on future job action will be communicated through bulletins, and specifics about the Essential Services Global Order are available through your Shop Steward.

We strongly advise Members not to undertake any job action that is not sanctioned by the Union Executive.

In solidarity,

Jesse Medeiros

President, GVRDEU
