JOB ACTION

Effective 6:00 am today, July 7, 2026:

The Union has made the decision to temporarily remove all our members from performing any Confined Space Entries & Rescues indefinitely. (except for members who have been scheduled by the Union to perform standby call-out duties as defined in the Essential Services Global Order).

REMINDER: The initial job action of removing our members from the following capacities remains in place:

• No Acting Roles, No Standby, No Overtime, No Technical Rescue Teams (TRT)

This escalated job action is being initiated to motivate Metro Vancouver’s Management to reassess its decision to deny all new time off requests by GVRDEU members for the interim. Furthermore, to return to the bargaining table with a genuine commitment to address the critical issues members have raised, including but not limited to:

• work in a safe working environment;
• ensure that a sustainable workforce is in place to deliver the critical infrastructure services that the Metro Vancouver public expects from its regional government; and
• stop the waste of public funds on contractor use for services Metro Vancouver has historically provided in-house.
