Dear GVRDEU members,
We are writing to provide members with a brief update on potential strike action involving Metro Vancouver.
Although the Union served the Employer with 72-hour strike notice and filed that notice with the BC Labour Relations Board (LRB) on April 10, 2026, strike action could not proceed at that time because the Employer disputed certain essential services positions. As a result, a hearing was required before an LRB Vice-Chair to resolve those disputed positions and finalize the Essential Services Global Order.
The Union received the finalized Essential Services Global Order on the afternoon of May 15, 2026.
On Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 3:36 p.m., the Union served the Employer with a new 72-hour strike notice and filed it with the LRB. A new notice was required because no job action took place before the previous strike notice expired at 2:04 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2026.
As of 3:36 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, 2026, the Union will be in a position to begin job action.
We will continue to keep members informed through the Shop Stewards as updates become available. Thank you for your continued support during this uncertain time.
In Solidarity,
GVRDEU Bargaining Committee
