2026 STRIKE BULLETIN #33

JOB ACTION

Effective 6:00 am, July 31, 2026

The Union has decided to temporarily remove members scheduled to work today in the Water Services Maintenance and Liquid Waste Services Field Maintenance Utilities departments in the classifications listed below:

  • Maintenance Mechanics
  • Trades Forepersons
  • Trades Mechanical Forepersons

The work locations affected by this job action are: Lake City Operations Centre, Coquitlam Water Treatment Plant and the Seymour Capilano Filtration Plant.

This escalated job action is being initiated to motivate Metro Vancouver Management to return to the bargaining table with a genuine commitment to address the critical issues members have raised, including but not limited to:

  • work in a safe working environment;
  • ensure that a sustainable workforce is in place to deliver the critical infrastructure services that the Metro Vancouver public expects from its regional government; and
  • stop the waste of public funds on contractor use for services Metro Vancouver has historically provided in-house.

Please be advised that information on future job action will be communicated through bulletins, and specifics about the Essential Services Global Order are available through your Shop Steward.

We strongly advise Members not to undertake any job action that is not sanctioned by the Union Executive.

In solidarity,

Jesse Medeiros

President, GVRDEU
