Effective 6:00 am today, July 9, 2026,
The Union has made the decision to temporarily removemembers from the following locations:
- South Fraser Construction Yard
- Annacis Liquid Waste Services Civil Maintenance Yard
- Water Services Engineering & Construction Job Classifications
- Construction Worker I/II
- Tradesperson II – Carpenter
- Carpenter Apprentice
- Equipment Operator II/III
This escalated job action is being initiated to motivate Metro Vancouver’s Management to reassess its decision to deny all new time off requests by GVRDEU members for the interim. Furthermore, to return to the bargaining table with a genuine commitment to address the critical issues members have raised, including but not limited to:
- work in a safe working environment;
- ensure that a sustainable workforce is in place to deliver the critical infrastructure services that the Metro Vancouver public expects from its regional government; and
- stop the waste of public funds on contractor use for services Metro Vancouver has historically provided in-house.
Please be advised that information on future job action will be communicated through bulletins, and specifics about the Essential Services Global Order are available through your Shop Steward.
We strongly advise Members not to undertake any job action that is not sanctioned by the Union Executive.
In solidarity,
Jesse Medeiros
President, GVRDEU
