Attention: GVRDEU Members
At the most recent Collective Bargaining Meeting on February 5, 2026, Metro Vancouver advised the Union of its intention to apply independently to the Labour Relations Board for mediation. Your bargaining committee did not agree that negotiations had reached a point requiring third-party involvement and maintained that bargaining should continue directly between the parties.
Despite this, Metro Vancouver submitted an application for mediation to the Labour Relations Board on February 6. After reviewing the application, the Board confirmed the Union’s right to continue collective bargaining without mediation. The Employer’s request for the appointment of a mediator was denied; the decision was issued the same day.
Bargaining will continue on February 12th directly between your Bargaining Committee and the Employer’s. The Employer’s current proposal does not show a willingness to address key priorities identified by the membership. If their stance remains, we will need to consider escalating pressure on Metro Vancouver to achieve an agreement at the bargaining table.
Updates to the membership will continue as negotiations proceed.
In solidarity,
GVRDEU Bargaining Committee
