NOTICE TO MEMBERS: Sick Leave Eligibility and Pay under the BC Employment Standards Act
Dear Members,
We would like to remind you of your entitlements under the British Columbia Employment Standards Act (ESA) regarding paid sick leave, and how this intersects with the provisions of our Collective Agreement.
Under the ESA, effective January 1, 2022, employees in British Columbia are entitled to:
“Up to five (5) days of paid sick leave per year, after 90 consecutive days of employment with the same employer.”
Important Clarification:
If your total sick leave does not exceed five days per year, regardless of the number of occurrences, you are still entitled to 100% of your regular pay under the ESA provisions.
