During the beginning of the current round of Collective Bargaining, the Employer attempted to withhold a wage offer pending the Union’s giving in to demands for Part-Time workers, which we felt was in contravention of Collective Agreement Clause 11.01, which gives us the same or better wage increases as CUPE 1004 settles for. The Employer of course disagreed and further threatened to alter the bargaining agenda to include removal of Clause 11.01.
Arbitrator Somjen was selected (under an expedited arbitration) as the sole arbitrator, however, the parties came to an agreement in his presence, rather than present evidence and have him make a ruling.
